Haarlem

Haarlem is among the most beautiful cities in the Netherlands, with a cosy, village-like atmosphere and has a distinct cosmopolitan vibe about it. Think Amsterdam but on a smaller scale – Haarlem has a comparable picturesque old-world charm, with cobbled streets, winding waterways and gabled houses. It’s a lively city of 150,000 residents bursting with culture, nightlife, dining hotspots and some of the best shopping streets in the country.

This vibrant city, with a large international community, attracts young digital businesses and agencies, and with an incredibly strong dining culture and a paradise for shoppers, it’s not surprising that it’s one of the most desirable cities in the Netherlands to call home.

Residential areas in this small city are well-connected to the centre, with local amenities all just a short bike ride away. With the centre of Amsterdam just 15 minutes away by train and North Sea beaches easily reachable by bike, Haarlem is a prime location for residents who want to be close to Amsterdam as well as the beach and countryside.

There are two international schools in Haarlem catering for 3 to 18 year olds and follow the International Baccalaureate programme. The International School of Haarlem and Mendelcollege, which offers bilingual education.
